Chat
Sistema nel quale più utenti, connessi contemporaneamente, possono dialogare fra di loro tramite messaggi scritti che appaiono immediatamente in un apposito pannello scorrevole.La chat può essere pubblica, cioè riguardare tutti gli utenti che abbiano effettuato il login, oppure privata. Nel primo caso i messaggi digitati appaiono a tutti gli altri utenti, nel secondo solamente a quelli selezionati o ad quelli che abbiamo fornito una apposita password per entrare nella chat privata (chiamata anche room).
Molto spesso nelle chat vengono usate delle abbreviazioni, o meglio degli acronimi, per esprimere un concetto con pochi caratteri, i chat acronym.
I sistemi di chat si sono evoluti in sistemi di Instant Messaging, fornendo anche funzionalità gratuite di chat audio e chat video.
